I.Comparative Research into Multiculturalism: from Theory to Humanitarian Practice. Presentation of the Baku International Center of Multiculturalism

Section A:

The first session titled «Philosophy of multiculturalism and specificity of the comparative investigations in different countries» (Moderators: Franko Kardini and Yefim Pivovar) was dedicated to met theoretical and philosophical of the common and particular in his understanding, as well the methods of carrying out the comparative studies on multiculturalism and the questions adjacent to it in the different scientific centers. Among speeches made in this section conceptual were those by: Lettice Frencces Russ (Great Britain), devoted to transcendental cultural paradigms as a way to humanist multiculturalism, the famous Italian historian, professor Franko Kardini on the theme: «Myth on collision of civilizations», Daniele Lazere «Vengeance of culture, How multiculturalism improves economics and geopolitics in the XXIst century and future». These speeches caused discussions, which were continued also at other sessions of the section. In particular, speakers admitted significance and necessity of philosophical investigations emphasized the distinctions in understanding of multiculturalism in different countries. Besides, they agreed that these distinctions may be explained by formation of historical traditions in this or another country (in report of the representative of the research Center «Il Nodo di Gordio» (Italy) Paulo Zammatteo «Udi, symbol and presentation» there were emphasized, for instance, the peculiarities of Azerbaijani model). The need in comparative investigations was substantiated by that practice of multiculturalism inEurope differs from that in other parts of the world, without them it is impossible to use an experience of the other, to comprehend specificity of a problem in conditions of globalization and etc. One of the speakers fromAzerbaijan (I.R.Mammad-zadeh) noted, in particular, that the comparative investigations surmise carrying out also multisciplinary studies as multiculturalism presents multidisciplinary problem, possessing economic, political and culturological aspects. In addition, some investigators noted contribution ofAzerbaijan, its models of modernization, as well the significance of Baku International Forum in development and practice of multiculturalism. There was emphasized an importance of the published materials of III Forum for science. Besides, professor of Ling Campus University (Italy) Alessandro Figus supposed that in solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by Azerbaijan they may use an experience of Italy in Boleano, where Austrian German-speaking majority lives. However, after the remark of one of Azerbaijani scientists (head of section «A») on thatAustria never had and held the aggressive plans on occupation of Italian lands unlikeArmenia, aggressor, occupied 20 percent of theterritory ofAzerbaijan, Italian professor admitted that application of the others experience demands the serious comparative investigations.

The second session under title «Political and legal aspects of concepts of national identity and an experience of cultural variety in conditions of synthesis of liberalism and communotarism» (moderators: E.Najafov and M.Rusetskaya) expressed, to a great extent, attention of the participants of section of practical, political-law problems of multiculturalism on post-soviet area. At this session there was drawn attention to speeches by Kh.Zarifi (ex-minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary) «Cultural identity of Tajiks, M.Rusetskaya (Russia), devoted to the problems of teaching a bilingual child in conditions of multiculturalism, as well of V.Amelin (Russia) on multiculturalism and ethno cultural politics in Russia (regional aspect), also by Akkan Siver, President of Marmara Group Fund (Turkey) dedicated to comparison of two multicultural poets Huseyn Javid from Azerbaijan and Teufik Fikret from Turkey. Akkan Siver’s speech (fromTurkey) caused discussion on grounds of politics ofTurkeywith its Arabic neigh boars, relations with minorities and etc.

The third session titled «Multiculturalism as politics of tolerant co-existence of the diverse cultural practices» under moderator ship of Alessandro Figus (Italy) and Ayten Mustafayeva (Azerbaijan) turned out to be interesting as there were heard the reports linked with comprehension of the questions of interaction of politics and humanization of practices in different countries, revealing the features of planning multicultural practice, organization of education and breeding culture of tolerance. The attention was paid to reports by Azerbaijani researchers E.Najafov, head advisor of the service of State Counselor on international issues on multiculturalism and religion, Dr.Ph.Sc.) on the theme «Multiculturalism in Azerbaijani history and contemporaneity,  and R.Azimova (Dr.Ph.Sc. the National Academy of Sciences ofAzerbaijan) on the theme «Multiculturalism and political sociology». E.Najafov linked the traditional tolerance and multicultural practice in history of the country with a modern course of modernization inAzerbaijan, and R.Azimova while developing ideas of the necessity of interdisciplinary studies of multiculturalism at first session, noted the significance of sociological data in carrying out like research. At the same she considered necessary to concentrate attention of politicians, political figures, representative of MM to the search of ways of humanization in practice of multiculturalism.

Afterwards the speech of G.Haynzelman (Germany) touching upon the problems of multiculturalism and integration of migrants in Germany, no broad discussion, having superficial theoretical readings arose an attitude to the migrants from the Soviet Union in Germany and internationalism in the former Soviet Union.

The section was concluded by the speech of L.Medichi (Italy) on the theme “Mission of UNESKO in multicultural world: the significance of intercultural education”.

In conclusion, at approving «Declaration» there was unanimously adopted that Forum was held on a high theoretical level with drawing the famous political figures, scientists, representatives of the societies in many countries of the world, that work of the section «A» «From theory to humanist practice» was well organized, and the reports and discussions were of scientific and practical importance, and that collaboration of the scientists should necessarily be continued.

Section B:

The round-table  “Comparative research of Multiculturalism: from theory to humanitarian practice” was held  within the framework of the IV Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

The chairmen of the round-table were Kamal Abdullayev – the State Councilor on inter-ethnic, multicultural and religious affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a true member of ANAS , Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa – Mayor of Los Angeles (2005-2013), former speaker of the California State Assembly, Zieglinde Hartmann – professor of Wurzburg University, president of the Oswald von Wolkenstein society and Ilham Mammadzade – professor, director of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of ANAS.

Kamal Abdullayev, the State Councilor on inter-ethnic, multicultural and religious affairs of theRepublicofAzerbaijan, true member of ANAS  held the opening ceremony of   the  sections “A” and “B” and  mentioned that “our country was historically the land of multiculturalism. This policy was founded by the nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and   as the result of President Ilham Aliyev’s successful policyAzerbaijanhas become the center of multiculturalism all over the world. He stressed the facts  of the foundation of the service of the State Councilor on inter-ethnic, multicultural and religious affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the Order of the President Ilham Aliyev dated February 14, 2014 and the establishment of Baku International Multiculturalism Centre by the Decree of the head of our Government dated May 15, 2014 were the most important factors of our country’s  loyalty to this policy. Kamal Abdullayev also highlighted the international activity in our country and abroad by Mehriban Aliyeva, the head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation – the First Lady of   theAzerbaijanRepublic and stated that our country visually demonstrated all the priorities of multiculturalism all over the world.

Valdis Zatlers, ex-president of theLatvianRepublic mentioned that multiculturalism was the system of values accepted by humanity and identity plays the  main role in the identification of the cultural level of different countries. The ex- president  highly appreciated the role of family, education, tolerance in the establishment of multiculturalism.

Afterwards, Seiglinde Hartmann, professor of the University of Wurzburg, president of the Oswald von Wolkenstein society, Azad Mammadov-the executive director of the Baku International centre of Multiculturalism, Franco Cardini-the professor of Florence University making speeches highly appreciated the importance of the  International Humanitarian Forum and high level of its organization and  mentioned that different cultures and religions peacefully existed in Azerbaijan.

The Round table held its third session named “Dialogue of Civilizations: Comparative Research of Eposes “The Song of the Nibelungs” and “The Book of Dada Gorgud”  in section B on the same day.

The moderators of the first session “A pluralistic cultural paradigm as the basis of humanist multiculturalism” were Seiglinde Hartmann-the professor of the University of Wurzburg, president of the Oswald von Wolkenstein society and Sevinj Fataliyeva –the member of Milli Majlis, Deputy head of the committee on inter-parliamentary relations and foreign affairs, head of the department of English Philology of Baku Slavic University.

Kamal Abdullayev ,the State Councilor on inter-ethnic, multicultural and religious affairs mentioned that the exchange of views on the subject “ The song of Nibelungs” and “The Book of Dada Gorgud”  was not accidental within the framework of Humanitarian Forum. In his report “Von Dits and his research  on “The Book of Dada Gorgud” he mentioned that the investigation of “The Song of the Nibelungs” by Azerbaijani researchers and the epos of “The Book of Dada Gorgud” by German researchers is the manifestation of multiculturalism.

The head of the Manuscript Department of  Baden State Library, doctor of philosophy Ute Obhof made a report on interrelations between the manuscripts of “The Nibelungs” and” Possible cultural interests of  its supporters  in the Middle Ages”. The author noted that 37 manuscripts of “The Song of the Nibelungs” have been preserved up to now and informed about the staging and performance of the larger parts of the epos in Carlsruye palace in 2003-2004.

Professor Aksel E.V.Muller ,the Director of the International Medieval Congress, Institute for Medieval Studies, University of Leeds spoke about  the importance of the global platform of multicultural research.

The head of Literature department of Moscow State Linguistic University, professor Alexander Bondarev talked  about the mutual impact of the different forms from epos to novel: “The Song of the Nibelungs” and “The Book of Dada Gorgud”- coincidence or reflection .

Sevinj Fataliyeva, the head of the department of English Philology of Baku Slavic University highlighted the concept of archetype and multiculturalism, suggested the comparative study in the cognitive aspect of the ancient epic memorials- “The Book of Dada Gorgud”, “The epos of Igor regiment”, “Beowulf” to determine the standards of nations and tried to determine the universal motives of these eposes.

Professor Liladhar Pendse ,the collaborator at Berkeley University of California for Slavic, Eastern, Eurasian Studies  dealt with  multiculturalism in the XIX centuryEuropeand compared these eposes.

The moderators of the second conference on “Comparative research into great works of literature and culture as a methodological basis for the formation of applied multiculturalism” were the head of the Seminar on Oriental Studies,UniversityofMainz,  professor Johannes Guttenberg and Tofiq Hajiyev, the director of theInstituteofLinguisticsnamed after Nasimi,  a true member of ANAS.

Professor Hendrik Boeschoten, the head of the seminar on Oriental Studies of the University of Mainz  named after Johannes Guttenberg made a report on the outcast as “Monster: “Dapagoz and Grendel”.

The director of theInstituteofLinguisticsnamed after Nasimi, a true  member of ANAS, Tofiq Hajiyev explained the unrevealed mysteries of  “The Book of Dada Gorgud” in his report .

The author emphasized  three unrevealed mysteries: the problem of  prose and poetry of the book , whether Karaja Choban was a shepherd or not  and focused on  the subject whether Azerbaijani Turks who created or completed “The Book of Dada Gorgud” were eating horse meat and drinking horse milk and he highlighted  it as a system of  his thoughts on the mysterious aspects .

Ijlal Jancorel, the associate professor ofMarmaraUniversitycompared the mentioned eposes in his  report “ The family and  kinship ties in the eposes “The Book of Dada Gorgud” and “The Song of  the Nibelungs”, and said that there were similarities as well as differences  between these eposes.

Teymur Kerimli, the director of theInstituteofManuscripts, a full member of ANAS, highlighted the study and  translation issues of the German epos “The Song of the Nibelungs” inAzerbaijan.

Karl Reichel, the professor of the department of English, American and Celtic studies, made a speech on  “the motive of hero’s  return in the epos “The Book of Dada Gorgud” and in the Medieval folk literature”.

Asif Hajiyev, the rector ofBakuSlavicUniversitymade  his report on the topic” The archetype parallels in the Medieval Turkic and German-Scandinavian eposes (The World Tree).

According to the author the World Tree is one of the main concepts of typological similarities and genetic ties in the studied mythological –epic traditions in Turkic and German-Scandinavian eposes.

Later  Aydin Talibzade, the professor of Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art,  made  his report on ” The epos creativity of the concept “water” in “The Book of Dada Gorgud” and “The Song of the Nibelungs” .

In his report the author presented “water” not only as a motive, but also as the factor, modeling the plot, he mentioned that “water” played a creative beginning and an accumulative role in the text frame.

The Professor of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of ANAS Rahman Badalov  compared these eposes, revealed their similar motives, especially showed the similarities in the Siegfried and Salor-Qazan characters   were related with honour and military duty in the report  “The Book of Dada Gorgud” and “The Song of the Nibelungs”: The opportunity of dialogue in a new multicultural context”.

The head of the Department of German Philology of Baku Slavic University, associate professor Sevinj Rzayeva highlighted the important role of “The Book of Dada Gorgud” in the study of the modern Azerbaijani language and literature, having similar motives though they belong to different geographical positions and nations in the report called “Hidden characters in “The Song of the Nibelungs” and “The Book of Dada Gorgud”.

The third session “General and special aspects of comparative culturological research at the junction of civilizations” was moderated by  Carl Reichel,the professor of the  Department of English, American and Celtic studies of the University of Bonn and Director of Folklore Institute, correspondent member of ANAS, professor Mukhtar Imanov

A French reporter, head of theCenterofInterdisciplinary Studiesof the Middle Ages at theUniversityofPicardie, professor Daniel Buschinger opened the meeting. He made a speech with a report called “Siegfried of the Legend ofNorth Nibelungsand “The Song of the Nibelungs”: the image of two different heroes”. He showed the character of Siegfried in the reflection of Norwegian traditions and tried to define similar and different peculiarities of these texts.

Director of Folklore Institute, correspondent member of ANAS, professor Mukhtar Imanov related the ways of self-introducing of heroes in “The Book of Dada Gorgud” with context and concept in his report “ The ways of self-introducing in “The Book of Dada Gorgud”.        The author considered it to protect the country of Oguz in a general meaning, but in a concrete meaning it means to rescue the family, parents, brother, sister and children from danger.

The Professor of University of Wurzburg, President of the Oswald von Wolkenstein society, Mrs Sieglinde Hartmann gave a comparative analysis of the mentioned heroes in the report called “Recognition of the heroes by themselves and others in “The Song of the Nibelungs”: Siegfried, Krimhild, Hagen”.

The professor of Baku Slavic University Rahila Guliyeva highlighted Gazan Khan prototype to be noteworthy and remarkable not only in the historic context, but also in the epos world, its importance, being perpetuated its name, remained in public memory.

The head of the department of the Azerbaijani literature, Baku Slavic University , professor Rahila Geybullayeva’s report “The cultural matrix of the name “Uruz” in “The Book of Dada Gorgud” was dedicated to the problem of rebuilding culturological layer of the character “Uruz” in the epos “The Book of Dada Gorgud”.

The German participant of the Forum, professor ofAngsburg UniversityKlaus Wolf made a speech with a report called “Hagen-an immortal story? Old and new hypothesis onHagenas a protagonist of the song of Niebelungs”.

The author gave a broad analysis of his report, drew up parallels showing him both as a historical person and a literary hero.

The representative ofOsaka(Japan) University Takayuki Yokota Murakami  made a report “Modern novel as a manifestation of epic motifs” and expressed his ideas on contemporary postmodern novel, including the activities of Azerbaijani novelists.

Then the professor of Humboldt University of Berlin, Department of the Middle Ages and early Modern Age German Literature Hans-Yurgen Scheuer highlighted in the report “The Treasure. The Property of the hero in “The Song of the Nibelungs” ,that money wasn’t an economical category before, showed its reference to sacral and political areas for creating interaction and balance in the archaic communities showing in the historical eposes.

At the end the discussions were held. The participants highly appreciated the importance of  Forum and  exchanged views on the topic.

At the end of the ceremony Declaration of the Forum was adopted.
